About Fredericksburg Congregational Church The Fredericksburg Congregational Church, UCC is really living the dream of the Apostle Paul. We have more than doubled our attendance in the past year, and are spreading our message to the growing community 52 minutes south of Washington D.C.
The excitement begins each Sunday when our future Moderator and his family come in the door and begin putting together the flags, the New Member Wreath and our gift banner from a member of the Cupertino, California UCC. It continues as one of the Trustees sets up the altar area, complete with a loaned cross from Little River UCC in Annandale, VA, gifted collection plates from a member and a wooden pulpit made by one of the Spotsylvania County High School classes.
For the past five years this little church has met first in the Campus Christian Community Building at the University of Mary Washington and three years ago moved into Tickers Coffee shop at the Westwood Plaza. On Friday evenings this little shop sees salsa dancing, but on Saturday morning it is transformed into a spiritual haven for those who want to study the Bible and by Sunday when the families start arriving, as the musician tunes his piano and as folks greet each other like long lost friends, the area becomes electric with the work of the Holy Spirit.
We have established "sister" connections with not only the Cupertino United Church in California, but with Faith United Church of Christ in International Falls, Minnesota, and were fortunate to have both churches visit us this past summer.
At Christmas, families were helped and food was sent to the domestic violence center. Activities such as "Jesus at the Movies," and a new series on Mary Magdalene fill our minds as we begin 2006 preparing to feed at the homeless shelter in town.
The Apostle Paul said: " . . .our competence comes from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of letter, but of spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." (2 Cor 3:5b-6)
Through our actions, deeds, lives and prayer, Fredericksburg Congregational is spreading this Spirit throughout the area and letting everyone know the joy we have not only in Christ Jesus, but in the United Church of Christ.
