Leadership and Ministry

The Potomac Association Committee on Church and Ministry follows the United Church of Christ Manual on Ministry as the guidebook towards authorized ministry in the United Church of Christ.

“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”     Ephesians 4:11-13

This resource of prospectives and procedures was developed by the Ministerial Excellence, Support, and Authorization Team (MESA, formerly Office of Church Life and Leadership/OCCL).  It exists to provide the best practices for individuals and local congregations to respond to an individual’s sense of call to ministry, preparation through education and experience, and discernment of vocation in ministry. Informed by the Manual on Ministry, the Committee on Church and Ministry has prepared the document “A Pathway to Ordained Ministry” to assist individuals and their home congregations in the Potomac Association. This resource outlines the specific steps in discernment towards authorization in ministry as an Ordained Minister.
